ONE WINDOW / ONE GRID

In order to protect the house we custom made metal bars that cover each window on the ground floor. Each grid is different. The window grid in question was fully replaced, customized and welded into place by the A - DASH team. Hence the title of the project, directly connected to its process of fabrication: if you are welding right, it sounds like sizzling bacon.

The grid is a balcony railing typical of Athenian modernist design from the 70’s. The artists that participated applied multiple translations and re-interpretations to the site; thus the project encapsulates the transitory and fleeting moments appearing within Athenian urban landscapes where countless buildings seem to be waiting for their next transmutation. The project also demonstrated a certain atmosphere that A - DASH wants to create in collaboration with other artists and in response to a particular urban context.

For, IF IT SOUNDS LIKE BACON YOU’RE DOING IT RIGHT, we invited one artist/collective each month during a year to respond to the window of A - DASH. Each artist/s created a poster, in the actual size of the window, that interacted with the design of the metal grid that protects the window. Each poster was visible from the street, at night, for one month of the year 2017.

The project was curated by the artist Noemi Niederhauser in 2017 who currently lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland. The exhibition for Back to Athens is curated by Eva Isleifs. A – DASH is an artist-run project space and studios in Athens, Greece run by Eva Isleifs, Zoe Hatziyannaki and Noemi Niederhauser



ΕΝΑ ΠΑΡΑΘΥΡΟ / ΕΝΑ ΠΛΕΓΜΑ

Προκειμένου να προστατέψουμε το σπίτι, κατασκευάσαμε μεταλλικά κάγκελα ασφαλείας για τα παράθυρα στο ισόγειο. Κάθε πλέγμα είναι διαφορετικό. Το πλέγμα για το εν λόγω παράθυρο προσαρμόστηκε και συγκολλήθηκε εξ ολοκλήρου από την ομάδα A - DASH. Από την όλη διαδικασία σιδηροκόλλησης προέκυψε και ο τίτλος του έργου: “Αν ακούγεται σαν να ψήνεις μπέικον, το κάνεις σωστά”.

Το πλέγμα είναι ένα κιγκλίδωμα μπαλκονιού χαρακτηριστικό του αθηναϊκού νεωτεριστικού σχεδιασμού από τη δεκαετία του 70, συγκολλημένο ανάποδα για να χρησιμεύσει ως προστατευτικό κάγκελο για το σπίτι του A - DASH. Έτσι το έργο ενσωματώνει τις μεταβατικές και φευγαλέες στιγμές του αθηναϊκού αστικού τοπίου.

Για τη δράση IF IT SOUNDS LIKE BACON YOU’RE DOING IT RIGHT προσκαλέσαμε έναν καλλιτέχνη / συλλογικότητα κάθε μήνα κατά τη διάρκεια ενός έτους (2017) να διαδράσει με το συγκεκριμένο πλέγμα παραθύρου. Κάθε καλλιτέχνης δημιούργησε μια αφίσα στις διαστάσεις του παραθύρου λαμβανοντας υπόψη το σχέδιο του μεταλλικού πλέγματος. Κάθε αφίσα ήταν ορατή από το δρόμο, τη νύχτα, για ένα μήνα. Οι καλλιτέχνες και οι συλλογικότητες που συμμετείχαν (κατά σειρά) είναι οι:

Το έργο επιμελήθηκε η εικαστικός Noemi Niederhauser, η οποία ζει και εργάζεται στη Λωζάνη της Ελβετίας. Την έκθεση στα πλαίσια του Back to Athens επιμελήθηκε η Eva Isleifs. Το A - DASH είναι ένας καλλιτεχνικός χώρος και οργανισμός στην Αθήνα που διευθύνεται από τις Eva Isleifs, Noemi Niederhauser, Ζωή Χατζηγιαννάκη.
