Join us for the opening of the exhibition “No one speaks to our dust”  at A - DASH, featuring work created by Christelle Makris & Dimitris Mitropoulos. 


Dimitris Mitropoulos brings to A - DASH forgotten works, unfinished collages and part of his collection of posters, magazines and newspapers, as he found them at a family holiday in Vravrona Attica, long forgotten. In the STOIXIOMENO EXOHIKO, old work from graphic design school, half-finished collages, political posters, newspaper clippings with politicians photos of 2009, collectibles, and Freedom Prints at the time of the 17N's arrest stand next to his threatened father, his old palace, a television and a big bomb ready to explode long ago complement this art happening. Although seemingly incompatible with each other, the time that has passed over them and their common place of storage has transformed them into a powerful whole at least in the mind of Dimitris Mitropoulos.


Ο Δημήτρης Μητρόπουλος μεταφέρει στο A-DASH ξεχασμένες δουλειές, ημιτελή κολάζ και μέρος της συλλογής του από αφίσες, περιοδικά και εφημερίδες, όπως τα βρήκε στο οικογενειακό εξοχικό στην Βραυρώνα Αττικής, ξεχασμένα εδώ και καιρό. Στο ΣΤΟΙΧEΙΩΜΕΝΟ ΕΞΟΧΙΚΟ, παλιές εργασίες απο σχολή γραφιστικής, μισοτελειωμένα κολλαζ, πολιτικές αφίσες, αποκόμματα εφημερίδων με φωτογραφίες πολιτικών του 2009, συλλεκτικά περιοδικά και Ελευθεροτυπίες τον καιρό σύλληψης της 17 Ν στέκονται δίπλα σε απειλητικά, παλιά εργαλεία από τη συλλογή του Χαράλαμπου, πατέρα του Δημήτρη, μια τηλεόραση και μια μεγάλη βόμβα που είναι έτοιμη από καιρό να εκραγεί, συμπληρώνουν αυτό το art happening. Αν και φαινομενικά ασύνθετα μεταξύ τους, ο χρόνος που έχει περάσει από πάνω τους και ο κοινός τόπος αποθήκευσής τους τα έχει μεταβάλει σε ένα ισχυρό σύνολο τουλάχιστον μέσα στο μυαλό του Δημήτρη Μητρόπουλου.

Dimitris Mitropoulos (1975) is a graphic designer, 神風 and publisher of the Worst Street Journal in Athens. He is currently a partner at Karlopoulos & Associates. Summers are in Tinos.

Ιστορίες της Τρούμπας

The work of Christelle Makris ´Stories of Troumba’ draws inspiration from the working class area of Piraeus and specifically its Troumba district as a sociopolitical and economical topography of Greece from the 50’s until today. Into play, are the working conditions of the lower income classes, in industries, construction, metal working, brothels and cabarets that are active among shipping activities ( international crews and the American Fleet). Troumba is a special landmark that is characterized by an exaggerated stereotypical representation of heterosexuality and it converted itself into a ‘folklore’ image of the Greek cinematography of the 60’s. Christelle Makris criticizes with humor and deliberate lightness the lack of skilfulness of the male dominated professions, the working conditions of the sex workers and the network of social relationships and interdependent commerce that springs from prostitution (pimps, protectors, bar owners etc)


Η έκθεση της Κριστέλ Μακρή "Ιστορίες της Τρούμπας" αντλεί έμπνευση από την εργατική περιοχή του Πειραιά και συγκεκριμένα της Τρούμπας ως μια κοινωνικοπολιτική και οικονομική τοπογραφία της Ελλάδας  από τη δεκαετία του πενήντα ως σήμερα. Καταπιάνεται με την εργασία των χαμηλότερων κοινωνικών στρωμάτων σε εργοστάσια, κατασκευαστικές, οίκους ανοχής και καμπαρέ που δραστηριοποιούνται γύρω από τη ναυτιλία (διεθνή πληρώματα και αμερικανικός στόλος). Η Τρούμπα αποτελεί ένα ιδιαίτερο τοπόσημο που χαρακτηρίζεται από υπέρμετρη στερεοτυπική αναπαράσταση της ετεροκανονικής σεξουαλικότητας και μετατράπηκε σε φολκλόρ εικόνα του κινηματογράφου της δεκαετίας του εξήντα. Η Μακρή σχολιάζει με χιούμορ και επιτηδευμένη ελαφρότητα την έλλειψη δεξιοτεχνίας των ανδροκρατούμενων επαγγελμάτων, τις συνθήκες εργασίας των εργατριών του σεξ και το δίκτυο κοινωνικών σχέσεων και αλληλεξαρτώμενων εμπορίων που απορρέει από την πορνεία  (νταβατζήδες, προστάτες, ιδιοκτήτες μπαρ κ.ο.κ)



About Christelle Makris

Christelle Makris, is an architect and visual artist based in Athens (GR) and coming from a multicultural family; her father is Greek and her mother is from Honduras. She received a bachelor of architecture from Washington University in St.-Louis, USA  and subsequently continued her studies in Brussels, Belgium with a Master’s degree in Conservation and Restoration of Ancient Monuments (Diplôme d’Études Specialisées en Conservation et Restauration du Patrimoine Architectural) from ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles) Brussels Free University- School of Urbanism.


She received a prize from the association of urbanists in Brussels for the best final thesis with subject: the Critique of the Restoration of four modernist villas in Brussels from the 30’s. In St. Louis Missouri, she followed painting, printmaking, photography and art history lessons with William Wallace who was one of the authorities that contributed to the restoration of Michelangelo’s frescoes of the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican. She has been part of various architectural projects and commissions in Greece and abroad: Polytechnic School of Architecture of Valencia (ES); International Maritime Services in Piraeus (GR); MI DESVAN Space Design (Honduras); Greek Pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hannover (Germany). Her personal artistic work has been exhibited internationally in galleries, museums and institutions such as: Snehta Residency (GR) ; Cultural Center of Chania (GR); Cultural Center of Athens (GR) ; Archives Générales du Royaume de la Belgique, Brussels (BEL) ; Centre Culturel d’ Aarschot, Flanders (BEL).
